2/7 Gloucester Coastal Hike + Mini-Brunch!

Join us for a great winter walk/hike + brunch Sunday 2/7 along the Gloucester Coast! (18k)

We`ll meet at North Station at 10:05 am (see below). Upon arriving in Gloucester, after a delicious mini-brunch at the cozy Two Sisters Coffee Shop (famous for its homemade bread), we`ll visit the area near the old fort (Gloucester, the oldest fishing port in the US, was highly coveted by both the British forces and flagless pirates in the 19th century) and the Fisherman`s Monument. Then we`ll walk/hike (mainly on sidewalks) around the inner harbor and then around the East Gloucester peninsula (also known as the Back Shore), stopping at the famous and appropriately called The Last Stop general store.

From there we continue to the southermost tip of the Back Shore with the mansions and the lighthouse - including an optional second offshore mini lighthouse at the end of a rock-road going into the water. Then we exchange tame Back Shore bay waters for the stormy Atlantic Ocean, and we continue along the coast to the Bass Rocks and the Good Harbor Beach and feel the majestic force of the Atlantic Ocean in all its power. From there we come back to downtown Gloucester, where we will wind down to a nice cup of coffee or a beer and/or a bit to eat at one of the many nice places there such as the Lone Gull Coffeehouse (www.lonegullcoffeehouse.com) or  Halibut Pt. Pub on Main St (http://www.halibutpointrestaurant.com/halibut_point_menu.pdf).

We will the train back from there at 5:18, getting back to North Station at 6:22 p.m. PS: this trip requires a minimum of four confirmed people. Please RSVP by Friday February 5 to balmaced@fas.harvard.edu Please dress warmly!

This is a great outing! Join in!
