At this year’s Lavender Graduation, Harvard Gender and Sexuality Caucus (HGSC) Director Jim Jacobs honoured the outstanding leadership and advocacy of Byron Gonzalez, recipient of the 2025 HGSC Award. Byron, a Latine, gay, and nonbinary student, was recognized for their tireless work as Co-president of the Queer Students Association, their commitment to inclusive community events, and their pivotal role in the Social Transition Fund.
“These commitments are more than extracurricular—they are personal, necessary, and rooted in lived reality,” Byron shared. Jacobs’ remarks also reflected on the importance of staying engaged and hopeful in challenging times: “We are not at the end of history but in the middle of it. The end is not yet written.”
Congratulations to Byron and all graduates! Alumni are encouraged to join the HGSC community at hgsc.org to continue supporting Harvard’s LGBTIQ+ students and alumni.
