HGSC Board Member Profile
Enzo Huang (AB '19, they/them)

What’s your background, in a couple quick sentences?
I am Taiwanese-American, first-generation in all ways, nonbinary, and gay, and I have an invisible disability. While I’m originally from Southern California, Chicago has been home since six years ago, when I became a teacher. That experience and events of recent years inspired me to pursue law instead in hopes of becoming a more effective advocate. My favorite pasttimes are playing video games and board games, listening to music, exercising, and going to the beach.
What brought you to Harvard and what did you study?
I got the opportunity to attend Harvard College thanks in part to my prior work researching homosexuality for the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California. As a member of the Class of 2019, I studied sociology and fell in love with the subject. To this day, sociological principles are fundamental to how I approach and am curious about the world.
Where are you now in your career?
I am an associate at the law firm Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath. As an attorney in the Construction and Real Estate Litigation group, I focus my practice on supporting clients with construction disputes and contract interpretation. I also have an active pro bono case load helping underprivileged clients navigate the immigration system.
From 2019 to 2021, I was a high school special education teacher for the Chicago Public Schools. As a child of immigrants, I taught all subjects and specialized in supporting immigrant and refugee students (and their families) with learning disabilities and language barriers. Students also nominated me to revive the school’s long-defunct Gender Sexuality Alliance student club, which became the largest club by membership in less than a semester and maintained its numbers through the COVID-19 pandemic until schools reopened.
Although I loved teaching and adored my students, the 2019 teachers’ strike and the pandemic’s far-reaching repercussions made clear how frustrated I felt at not being able to help my students more (how does algebra help a fourteen-year-old whose family just lost their home?). Ultimately, I applied to law school driven by the desire to be a more effective advocate for them than I felt I could be from within a classroom. As chaotic as it was, I will always treasure the time I had with my students.
Why did you join the HGSC Board?
I joined the Board in May 2021 because I wanted to help represent younger alumni of color. I’m humbled to have served continuously since then and proud to serve alongside my esteemed co-Directors.
What are you excited for in 2025?
I’m very excited about celebrating four years with my partner this June! Also, I’m thrilled to wear shorts again once summer comes around.
What’s one food you miss most from your Harvard days?
Something I crave at least once a month is the beauty of Fry-days, when the dining halls served fried chicken tenders, fries/curly fries/sweet potato fries, and clam chowder during lunch hours on Fridays. I would grab a bowl of steaming clam chowder, top it generously with sriracha and mix it, and dip my delicious fried spoils into the spicy chowder. It is the best dipping sauce for fried chicken or fries I’ve ever had, bar none.
