On Thursday, May 25, 2017, the Harvard Gender & Sexuality Caucus held its 2017 Annual Commencement Dinner! We were hosted in Lowell House by Faculty Deans Diana L. Eck and Dorothy A. Austin.
Since 1982, the Annual Dinner has served as an important recognition of and for LGBTQ life at Harvard. Held on Commencement Day, the dinner is an intergenerational celebration for new graduates, returning alumni and alumnae, and Harvard faculty and staff. It’s a wonderful opportunity to foster the broad representation across the University that the Caucus hopes to achieve.
The HGSC also takes the occasion to honor individuals who have made important contributions to the LGBTQ community. You can see lists of past speakers and previous award recipients on our website. This year we were honored to welcome Representative Mark Takano, AB '83 (Congressman for the 41st District of California), and Ambassador Joanne Adamson OBE, MPA '14 (Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to the United Nations) as our guest speakers. The discussion panel was moderated by Sheehan Scarborough, AB '07, MDV '14 (Director of the Office of BGLTQ Student Life).
