North Shore Bike Tour tomorrow 9/20

Andover- Ipswich-Newburyport-Haverhill bike tour with coffee stops and grand finale (variable distance: 20 or 36 or 50+ miles ) (Meet at North Station 8:30am)

Welcome to the second bike tour of the year this Sunday, September 20!

Weather will be gorgeous, with temps in the 70's!

We'll meet at North Station at 8:30 and take the Commuter Rail to Andover at 8:45, arriving at 9:33. From there we will cycle to nearly car-free country roads to Boxboro (optional ice cream stop) and Ipswich, where we will stop for lunch at c. 12:45. From there we continue to Newburyport (beautiful seaside town on the Atlantic coast) via Rawley and Old Town Newbury, home of one of the first colonial settlements in the East Coast. We arrive at  Newburyport at c. 3:00 pm.

Those wishing a longer trip will continue from there along the Merrimac River to Haverhill, where we will cap our day with beers and appetizers at the Havehill Brewery, before taking the train back to Boston at 7:20 pm. [Depending on weather and wind, last destination may be changed to Porstmouth, NH, same timeline].

The total distance is c. 60  miles ( c. 90 km), but you can do a shorter route of 20, 36 or 51  miles by coming back with the commuter rail from Ipswich or Newburyport (for schedules see mbta.com).

This is not a race: we'll cycle at a steady but comfortable speed of c. 13 mph (c. 18 kph).

Please bring:

1) desire to have fun!

2) water and snacks

3) a bicycle with good working brakes and lights

4) light-color or bright jacket/shirt

Each rides assumes responsibility for his or her own safety.
